Citizenship and residency by investment for Nigerian investors

Nigerian files succeed on documentation. The programs are open, the interest is high, and the difference between approval and refusal is almost always the quality of the source-of-funds evidence.

Nigeria permits dual citizenship, and Nigerian applicants are eligible for the main citizenship and residence programs. What differs is the depth of the review: most due diligence firms apply enhanced scrutiny to applicants from high-growth markets with cash-intensive sectors, and the file has to be built for that from day one.

Handled properly this is a documentation exercise, not an obstacle. Handled casually it produces refusals that follow you between programs.

Enhanced due diligence, and how to pass it

Assume every source of wealth will be traced to its origin. Provide audited company accounts, CAC registration and shareholding records, tax clearance certificates, contracts and invoices supporting major income, and bank statements that reconcile to all of them.

Where income is from oil and gas services, construction, trading or government contracts, expect additional questions on counterparties. Politically exposed person status, including by family relationship, must be disclosed at the outset. Non-disclosure that surfaces later is fatal; disclosure handled properly rarely is.

  • Audited accounts and CAC records for every entity you own.
  • Tax clearance certificates covering the review period.
  • Contracts and invoices behind major inflows.
  • Full, voluntary disclosure of any PEP connection.

Foreign exchange and payment timing

Program payments are due in dollars or euros to government accounts on a fixed schedule. Access to foreign exchange and the timing of transfers is the practical constraint for many Nigerian applicants, and it should be arranged through documented banking channels only.

Payments routed through third parties or informal channels create source-of-funds problems that are difficult to repair.

What Nigerian applicants actually gain

The travel improvement here is genuine and large, unlike for holders of already-strong passports. A second citizenship materially reduces visa friction for business travel, and a residence permit in Europe or the Gulf changes where children can study and where a business can bank.

That makes the return on this decision easier to quantify for Nigerian families than for most other markets we serve.

Questions

Frequently asked from Nigeria

Does Nigeria allow dual citizenship?
Nigerian law permits dual citizenship for citizens by birth. Confirm your specific position with a Nigerian legal adviser.
Are Nigerian applicants accepted by these programs?
Yes. Applications are assessed individually, with enhanced due diligence common. Approval depends on the file, not the nationality.
How much should I budget in total?
Budget the qualifying investment plus government, due diligence and legal charges for every family member, plus our professional fee, which we quote in writing before engagement. Each program page itemises the two separately.
